My First Noel

We all know the story—how Jesus was born in a stable after Joseph and Mary journeyed to Bethlehem and could find no room in an inn—and we’ve seen it depicted on Christmas cards and in Nativity scenes—Mary in her flowing gown, the well-kept stable, the Christ Child wrapped in spotless white or baby blue swaddling clothes—but what was the first Noel really like? I’ve often wondered that, and now I think I know.
